deploying

what are various ways of deploying in tomcat 5.5.4 through its manager
1)how to deploy new application(directory or WAR file located on
server) on local path
2)how to deploy new application remotely
plz don,t say to refer the tomcat documentation as it confuses me
plz help me in easier steps as i am new
