I ran several tests (using the file the initial reporter attached) trying to
reproduce the bug using different system configurations. Twice I was able to
reproduce the error and twice I was able to save the file as expected. Because
the initial reporter was using OOo 3.4 beta, I speculate in OOo 3.4.1 the bug
was resolved if the user follows the pop-up message by installing JRE.

Reproduced Bug: Error displayed and unable to save the file provided by the
initial reporter in Microsoft Word 2003 XML (.xml) format using the below steps
with the following system configuration:

OOo version 3.4.1
Windows 8
JRE is not installed

OOo version 3.3.0
Windows XP
JRE version 6 update 1.6.0_31 is only installed
______________________________________________________________

Bug not replicable: File provided by initial reporter was saved in Microsoft
Word 2003 XML (.xml) format following steps 1-5 with the following system
configuration:

OOo version 3.4.1
Windows 8
JRE version7 build 13

OOo version 3.3.0
Windows XP
JRE version6 update 1.6.0_31
Java plugin 1.3.1_01

_______________________________________________________________________

1. Open in Open Office file provided by initial reporter.

2. Selected File > Save As>
 File Name - Bug 120148
File Type – Microsoft Word 2003 XML (.xml)

3. Select check box – Automatic file name extension

4. <SAVE>

5. Pop up message displayed:
Do you want to save the document in this format anyway?
 SELECT - Keep Current Format

6. Pop up message displayed
 JRE Required
Open Office.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this
task. Please install a JRE and restart Open Office.Org.
 SELECT > OKAY

7. Error Displayed:
Error saving the document Bug 120148:
       Write Error.
The file could not be written.

8. Unable to save file in Microsoft Word 2003 XML (.xml) format
