I have unpacked the installation files and installed with "setup -a". The
installation creates the folders and files, but I cannot start the program.
I had the same problem with a build provided by Armin.
I can install it this way on WinXP.

It seems, that the file cannot be created on my PC, because the path to the
folder 'program' is to long.

Yes, that build, based on r1231878, has the same problem. The file ".lock" is
created and the folder "user" is created too. But starting end with the error
(It is a German Windows 7 Starter):
"OOo-dev 3.4 funktioniert nicht mehr
Das Programm wird aufgrund eines Problems nicht richtig ausgeführt. Das
Programm wird geschlossen und Sie werden benachrichtigt, wenn eine Lösung
verfügbar ist.
Programm schließen"
I had no problem with OOoDev300m106 on that PC.
I have copied the whole folder to a PC with WinXP and there AOO starts without
problems.

I have investigate a little bit more. I have copied a "user"-folder from a
DEV300m106 to the faulty installations. And with that folder the program
starts. I have tried to isolate which part of the folder might cause the
problem, but does could not find it. I'll attach the two folders.

Now, I have a new and clean Window 7 machine.
I tried developer snapshot, rev. 1293550:
- execute the downloaded installation set.
- quit installation after the installation files have been unpacked.
- execute "setup.exe -a" in a command shell in the folder containing the
installation files
--> AOO 3.4 developer snapshot is installed.
- adjust <UserInstallation> in bootstrap.ini to
<${OOO_BASE_DIR}/../userinstall>
- Trying to start AOO 3.4 developer snapshot by executing <soffice.exe>
--> AOO starts
Thus, I can not reproduce the described defect

I verified against Dev snapshot full build Rev. 1299571 on two Windows 7 64
bits, both couldn't reproduce.

The file "fontnames.dat" is used in main/vcl/win/source/gdi/salgdi3.cxx
A new ImplFontAttrCache object is created and before that some paths variables
are set. Maybe there is something wrong on your Windows Starter system. I am
guessing that the font cache can't be created ...
But I can't reproduce it on my windows 7 system.

I tried it again with developer version of r1293550. It still does not start.
Difference to you:
Installation with calling "setup.exe -a" from (German) Start -> Ausführen.
OS is "Windows 7 starter", not full Windows 7.
I have copied the (German) "Ereigniseigenschaften" and will attach the file.

I found it. It is the file "fontnames.dat". This file is missing in the
user-folder, which is generated by AOO r1293550. If I copy this file from
DEV300m106 to user\config\ then soffice.exe starts normally.

I have tried the developer snapshot r1240836 now. Same problem. I cannot start
it on Windows 7, but works without problems on WinXP.
