Jetspeed / Torque / Oracle / Error - timeouts?

Maybe this is question I should ask the Torque-users list, but I
thought I could ask it here first.

During the log-in process on the portal, I do an LDAP query to an
external LDAP server to update a user's firstname/lastname etc in the
Portal database. Sometimes one of the fields I receive from that query
is 'NULL' (i.e. not defined), and I try to insert that into my
database. Since some of the fields cannot be null in the database
Oracle gives me an error message.

So as I expected, I can find this error message in my jetspeed.log file.

Here is the problem I have: the database connection on which this
error occured is never freed by Torque. Slowly but surely my database
pool (of 10 connection) gets filled up, and eventually there is no
database connection available to the portal, and Jetspeed hangs.

So here is my question (or rather, questions): why doesn't the
connection get freed up, and why doesn't it time out? Is there a way
to free this connection after I have caught this exception in my code?
(can't find anything in the Torque API).

Thanks,
