[GSoC] Asynchronous Servlet integration with SCA callbacks
Hello,
My name is Florian Moga and I am interested in the Asynchronous Servlet
integration with SCA callbacks project as part of GSoC from a student
position.
As I could see on the jira page, Mr. Ant Elder will be mentoring this
project. I will start documenting about what this project involves and get
back to you via email with some ideas.
Thank you,
Florian

There isn't any association between the component name and resources,
the implementation.web applies to all resources in the web application
and the component name isn't really used for anything. The web-uri is
empty which means the local webapp where the component is running in.
So any webapp resources - servlet, jsp etc - all share the one
implementation.web and the references and properties configured on it
are for all the resources.

The eclipse plugin is only for the 1.x release we've not brought it up
yet in 2.x and may not instead just relying on the STP one -
http://www.eclipse.org/stp/sca/. You can find the Tuscany 1.x one on
the download page at

Re: [GSoC] Asynchronous Servlet integration with SCA callbacks

Hi all,
While running the samples I found in the latest source (more specifically
the helloworld-servlet and helloworld-jsp samples) I could find the
following .composite file:
<composite xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/opencsa/sca/200912"
xmlns:tuscany="http://tuscany.apache.org/xmlns/sca/1.1"
targetNamespace="http://samples"
name="Helloworld">
<component name="foo">
<implementation.web web-uri=""/>
<reference name="service" target="HelloworldComponent"/>
</component>
<component name="HelloworldComponent">
<implementation.java class="sample.HelloworldServiceImpl"/>
</component>
</composite>
How does Tuscany associate component "foo" with the servlet or jsp? There
are no path specifications to the servlet class or to the .jsp file like
HelloworldComponent. Also no url is specified in the web-uri which probably
org.apache.tuscany.sca.host.webapp.TuscanyContextListener (specified in
web.xml) uses to filter the requests that need tuscany initialization.
However, injection is successfully made. I would like to find out what is
the mechanism used for this association.
Also, I could find multiple references on the internet about a Tuscany
Eclipse plugin but I was unable to find an update site or a location to
download and check it out. Can you give me some advice on this too?
Thank you,
Florian

Hi Ant,
I'm happy to hear that the application looks good and that more people from
the community will be involved.
I have made the suggested modifications in the development schedule section.
Let me know your thoughts on the new version.

That looks great Florian. I'll continue reviewing it and encourage
other Tuscany devs to also take a look. One comment for now is that it
would be good to have a more concrete list of items to commit to being
done by the mid term evaluations on July 16th. That doesn't have to be
to detailed, but at least some out line ideas for what would be done,
some examples could be:
- code for server side SCA components for an async service to be used
in a demo or testcase
- code or psuedo code for client browser page that invokes the SCA
service on the server
- a paragraph or two detailing the design (or several possible
designs) to implement the function
