@tabeth This was also on the `dev@couchdb.apache.org` mailing list - concerns were raised that it could break session-based replication (a performance improvement introduced in 2.2.0). There are ways to solve it, but we can't forget that important use case. Also, every single client library that uses `_session` today will need rewriting to grab a new cookie -- so this breaks reverse compatibility.
