   As I said on https://github.com/apache/arrow-testing/pull/59 , it seems that instead of writing custom C++ tests, this would be better served by the integration testing machinery.
   For that, you would accompany the Arrow stream file with a corresponding JSON file (gzipped) representing the data. I can let you find out the details, but feel free to ask questions if you're lost.
