[I] Recovering from sleep destroys functionality in some editor windows (Windows 11) [netbeans]
istinnstudio opened a new issue, #9167:
URL: https://github.com/apache/netbeans/issues/9167
### Apache NetBeans version
Apache NetBeans 28
### What happened
Recovering from sleep destroys functionality in some editor windows, this is happening in latest Windows 11 pro. Never happened in windows 10 (NetBeans 27), but I am not sure though if it is NetBeans version related. It is very frequent in my case. Editor window loose ability to use find (ctrl+F) and right click does not work. Closing and reopening the specific file, restores editor functionality. I am not sure but those editors affected might me those that have been previously edited in the current NetBeans session. Has anyone using windows 11 experienced such an issue?
### Language / Project Type / NetBeans Component
_No response_
### How to reproduce
I am not sure how to reproduce. For me just a lid close can do this easily. Run as administrator does not help. It might be a Windows 11 only issue.
### Did this work correctly in an earlier version?
No / Don't know
### Operating System
Windows 11 pro
### JDK
25
### Apache NetBeans packaging
Apache NetBeans binary zip
### Anything else
It happens very often. Opening the Find (ctrl+F) that brings the Editor Find bottom panel, prevent this sometimes, and this probably has to do with what is the active editor. So as a workaround I try to open Find in all editor windows I have open. I use to have many open files, more that 30 but I do not think number of open editors is related.
### Are you willing to submit a pull request?
No

I can confirm this is still occurring on NB30. This happens after about 15+ minutes when the Windows 11 screen locks. I don't have to close out of NB to fix the issue. I just have to close out and reopen one of the editor tabs.

This happening to me as well in NB29, but the machine never goes to sleep. I lock the screen, return after an extended period of time, unlock the screen, and the CTRL+F, CTRL+H, right-click functionality no longer works as expected - the search sidebar and the context window do not appear at all. I haven't been able to reproduce this error by locking / unlocking the screen on-demand. It seems to be random or only occur after a certain amount of time has elapsed - I've yet to discover the magic number, but I will pay closer attention. I will also upgrade to NB30 and see if it still occurs there. I've had to close out of NetBeans and re-open it as a workaround.

I am on windows 11 (but v23H2) as per company policy.
I'm not sure what is sleep mode, is this equivalent to lock unlock desktop ? I cannot reproduce for the moment.

Thanks for reporting this, it proves it is not isolated. It is very frequent. I am still struggling to find out hen this can happen. Additionally, sometimes (not so often but can still happen) the NetBeans process is being silently killed, I mean no sign of existence. Always happens after some kind of recovery form a "blank" screen. never seen such behavior in other open software I use.

One more observation that could lead to a direction. I was updating intel GPU drivers in my laptop while NetBeans was open. There is a point where the driver shuts off the signal to the monitors and we see just a blank screen 2-3 times during the installation process. When this happened, and signal and windows desktop recovered, NetBeans instance was no longer there, not a sign.
