i am using Ubuntu 7.04 version, and want to connect with Theora svn.
svn was successfully installed, but when i follow the way that described on
http://www.theora.org/svn.html
it gives the following error.
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/trunk/theora'
svn: PROPFIND of '/trunk/theora': could not connect to server
(http://svn.xiph.org
)
i am using the SVN behind a proxy, the reason for the error may be that. so

That works for my squid:
walfisch:~ # grep ^extension_methods /etc/squid/squid.conf
extension_methods REPORT MERGE MKACTIVITY CHECKOUT

Now *that* error may be caused by your proxy (to which the #proxy FAQ
does apply). Contact your proxy admin to ask him whether REPORT
requests are supported.

it is seems to be ok for some far.
because the given error message got changed. that is also a happy for me
this is the change i did. (uncommented required fields as follow.)
********************
[global]
# http-proxy-exceptions = *.exception.com, www.internal-site.org
http-proxy-host = cache.mrt.ac.lk
http-proxy-port = 3128
http-proxy-username =
http-proxy-password =
# http-compression = no
# No http-timeout, so just use the builtin default.
********************
my proxy server do not have user name or password.
then the new reply for the check out command (svn co
http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/theora) is
svn: REPORT request failed on '/!svn/vcc/default'
svn: REPORT of '/!svn/vcc/default': 400 Bad Request (http://svn.xiph.org)
still i cant understand what is the reason for this...?
thanks

Re: how to set proxy settings
Posted by janaka priyadarshana <rp...@gmail.com>.
this is the problem again
i am using ubuntu 7.04
i want to connect to the theora svn ()
so when i gave the command
svn co http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/theora
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/trunk/theora'
svn: PROPFIND of '/trunk/theora': could not connect to server (
http://svn.xiph.org)
this error massage was given.
i suggest that the reason may be the proxy server does not allow to do this.
so i read the instruction given in
http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html#proxy
but i was unable to understand what it says (sorry for my less knowledge).
so this is the my "server" configuration file which is located in the home
directory.
***************************************************************************************
### This file specifies server-specific protocol parameters,
### including HTTP proxy information, and HTTP timeout settings.
###
### The currently defined server options are:
### http-proxy-host Proxy host for HTTP connection
### http-proxy-port Port number of proxy host service
### http-proxy-username Username for auth to proxy service
### http-proxy-password Password for auth to proxy service

### HTTP timeouts, if given, are specified in seconds. A timeout

# No neon-debug-mask, so neon debugging is disabled.
# ssl-authority-files = /path/to/CAcert.pem;/path/to/CAcert2.pem

the above file does not include any field such as
# TAG: extension_methods
# Squid only knows about standardized HTTP request methods.
# You can add up to 20 additional "extension" methods here.
#

# none
extension_methods REPORT MERGE MKACTIVITY CHECKOUT
so i am really confused with the given explanation under "what if i am
behind a proxy"
please now if u can suggest the reason, help me to solve this
if this is not enough please tell me what are the needed other informations.

This description is absolutely not specific enough to make anybody
help you. When you report problems to this list, please remember that
we cannot see what's on your screen, nor do we know what it is exactly
that you already tried to resolve the issue. So, please be as verbose
as you can (and then you're probably not even verbose enough!).

Erik.

found the "~/.subversion/server" file, and there were place to put the proxy

i think that is enough that entering [global] settings for all ( [group1]

if my proxy server does not have username or password what should i enter

as it mentioned in http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html#proxy, there were
no fields like "extension_methods". i have no idea about "extension_methods"
