--- Comment #19 from Tomislav Delalic <td...@outlook.com> ---
I was able to replicate the problem on the following configuration:
Windows 10
OpenOffice 4.2.0
Steps I followed:
1. Create a sample text (can be only one character)
2. Add footnote with ** as numbering
* Observe that the cursor is not placed just after the second *, but apparently
inserts few blank spaces between ** and the cursor
3. Save the document as a .doc format
4. Open the saved document in OpenOffice
Observed behaviour:
Previously entered ** in the footnote now appear with few spaces between each *
.
Spacing will happen even if you enter more than two characters and regardless
of spaces between them and regardless of characters we use. Tested and
reproduced with:
(place the following lines in step 2)
a. Insert four characters with one space between each of them
b. Insert two or more characters other than * (any character, including letters
and numbers)
However, the space added after I did the initial insert of characters (step 2)
asked for some followup tests:
1. Insert the footnote with ** characters
2. Delete the spaces added by the operation
3. Save the document as .doc
4. Open the saved document in OpenOffice
Observed behaviour:
Footnote is displayed as it was before saving, without blank spaces between *
characters.
Another test in order to see if the same happens when editing the document:
1. Insert the footnote with ** characters
2. Delete the spaces added by the operation
3. Save the document as .doc
4. Open the saved document in OpenOffice and add space right after the two *
characters
5. Close and reopen the document in OpenOffice
Observed behaviour:
Footnote is displayed as it was before saving, without blank spaces between *
characters
Repeat the same, but using Word to modify the document:
1. Insert the footnote with ** characters
2. Delete the spaces added by the operation
3. Save the document as .doc
4. Open the saved document in Word and add space right after the two *
characters
5. Close and reopen the document in OpenOffice
Observed behaviour:
Footnote is displayed as it was before saving, without blank spaces between *
characters
>From what it seems, the actual problem causing this behaviour might be:
The adding of two characters in a footnote for the first time adds blank spaces
following them, that causes blank spaces to appear between characters afer
saving it in a .doc format and reopening with OpenOffice
