[jira] [Commented] (CALCITE-3127) Support ALTER VIEW Statement
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CALCITE-3127?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16863305#comment-16863305 ]
Julian Hyde commented on CALCITE-3127:
--------------------------------------
How would this differ from {{CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW}}? I presume there is a DB that has this syntax, and you are trying to emulate it. If so, which DB?
The philosophical difference between an ALTER statement and a CREATE OR REPLACE statement is that ALTER specifies deltas - eg. alter table add one column - where as a CREATE OR REPLACE statement repeats the entire definition. For views, CREATE OR REPLACE seems more appropriate.
