proton examples and general discussion list

The users@qpid.apache.org list is intended for general discussion for
anything Qpid related. This is a low volume list, with no 'noise' from
JIRA or commit logs. The topics cover all components developed within
Qpid (including proton) as well as interactions with other AMQP-enabled
software. The focus is increasingly on AMQP 1.0.

Consolidating discussions on a single list promotes better propagation
of information, ideas and opinions and helps avoid fragmentation.

If there is anyone on the proton list not subscribed to the users list,
I would encourage you to subscribe now. It's easy to do, just send a
mail to users-subscribe@qpid.apache.org, is easy to filter and is low
volume anyway. The archives[1] are available to give an idea of volume
and content to date.

I would also encourage everyone to always consider posting to the more
general list. It is surprising how often a seemingly narrowly focused
point can trigger wider discussion.

I am working on some examples for proton using the engine with events
and a toolkit of handlers. This is essentially the approach started by
Rafi with the demo he posted about previously. My interest is in trying
to get to an API that is both easy to use for simple cases and offers
flexibility and control over the full range of AMQP where needed.

I've created a branch[2] on which to do this and the initial tutorial
text is online for easier browsing[3] but can be generated from svn
(`make html` in the new 'tutorial' directory). I welcome any feedback
and collaboration. I'd like to have the discussion for this on the
general users list as it is of interest to those with experience of
other APIs and components also.

My next step is going to be to add support for timers to the select loop
in order to allow backoff on reconnect (and eventually heartbeats), and
then go on to explore different reliability options.
