[Bug 54264] New: random variable problem when you set a seed

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=54264

            Bug ID: 54264
Summary: random variable problem when you set a seed
           Product: JMeter
           Version: 2.7
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows Server 2003
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: HTTP
          Assignee: issues@jmeter.apache.org
          Reporter: roberto.benitez@linguaserve.com
    Classification: Unclassified

If you set a seed in a random variable, the algorithm of randomness only works
once. And from that moment always uses the same number.

--- Comment #2 from Roberto <ro...@linguaserve.com> ---
I setup a test procedure which does HTTP request to a server.

The URI is http://IP/myapp?proyect=${RANDOM_proyect}

I config 10 threads and they do that request one time with the random variable.
If I set a seed on the random variable, every thread does the same request. If
I don't set a seed, every thread does a diferent request, because the random
variable (a diferent proyect value).

I will test it on 2.8 later. Thank you

If you are using :
Per Thread(User) : True
And same seed value, then you get the same values, as:
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/Random.html

" If two instances of Random are created with the same seed, and the same
sequence of method calls is made for each, they will generate and return
identical sequences of numbers"

It's difficult to work out what you mean here.

Please provide the simplest possible test case that shows the problem.

Also, please test it with the current version (2.8) first.

Thanks.
