There is an "orb logo with gulls" on openSUSE installer

Yesterday I upgraded my system to openSUSE 12.2. The installer, when
copying packages to the hard drive offer a slide show to highlight the main
openSUSE characteristics. What caught my eye on this slide show is the part
that talk about the office suite: openSUSE distribute LibO, but instead of
using the TDF logo you can see an orb with two gulls. The openSUSE's orb is
in a darker blue and the gulls are not white, but it is clearly based on
the AOO logo.

Not sure if this is this a "trademark issue" or something non important...
what do you think?

Regards
Ricardo

I agree.

Is the DVD from OpenSUSE or one of their distributors?

I looked at the image. It certainly looks like an issue for trademarks.

Do they carry a misleading symlink to openoffice in their package ?

Pedro.

More details. Looking at the openSUSE installer DVD, under

suse/setup/slide

directory you have two folders: "pic" with several icons and "txt" the
slide text. The problematic "pic" is 05_office.png

I uploaded the image and the rtf file with the text for that slide here:

https://sites.google.com/site/rgbmldcwriterideas/orb-logo-opensuse.zip

During install I've seen it just for a second (coming back to the computer
with a coffee...) and then it seemed to me more similar our orb logo than
it actually is, but it is clearly based on the same idea.

If we agree that the picture is an issue I can try to send the email to
trademarks

This is clearly a trademark issue and trademarks@a.o should be informed with a precise description on how the issue appears.

The issue I filled on the openSUSE's bugzilla is now marked as "resolved -
fixed":

If you want, you can enter an issue in BZ for this. We have a
category for trademark issues:

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/enter_bug.cgi?product=trademark

This is useful for tracking. It also allows the subset of the
volunteers who are interested and knowledgeable about trademarks to
deal with it, even if they are not available during the time that the
email thread is active.
