You'll have more luck if you ask this question on a mailing list of
CVS users. You've asked the question on a list of Subversion users,
many of whom have never used CVS.

Just enter "man cvs" in your shell and read that manual. All the command line
options are explained in detail there. If you happen to be a Windows user,
try entering "man cvs" in Google.
