j_security_check "invalid direct reference" problem

Dear Tomcat User,

If a user bookmarks and accesses the login page directly, Tomcat will
display "Invalid Direct Reference" error because it doesn't know what page
to redirect a client after login.

If you are using form-based authentication, you probably run into this
"Invalid Direct Reference" problem.  This problem is notorious.  It has
haunted Tomcat users since form-based authentication was implemented.  There
is no workaround other than enhancing Tomcat.  Please vote for this
enhancement - http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8976 to
reflect how important this feature is to us, as developers and users.
