Summary: Internal Server Error from Apache even if Tomcat is
running
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.0.43
Platform: All
OS/Version: Windows Server 2003
Status: NEW
Severity: critical
Priority: P1
Component: All
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: saurabh.kumar@siemens.com
I am using Apache - Tomcat integration for my Web Application.
Apache is running on port 8079 and is forwarding requests to tomcat through
mod_jk-2.0.42.dll module(Tomcat port 8009,ajp13 Connector).It works fine in
most of the cases but I get "Internal Server Error" response from Apache from
time to time, even though Tomcat is up and running fine.
(I have tried it on both Windows2003 server and Windows200 professional)
Can someone help me on this.?

Did Apache write a message to the error log at the time of the 500?
If yes, post the message and we can help decipher that here.
If no, this is a mod_jk issue and should be investigated by somebody else. We
don't support mod_jk here.

You don't mention what version of mod_jk you are running, some binary
with the corresponding apache version number does us no good.
You don't mention if you have changed LogLevel from warn to debug to
provide the maxiumum information related to any failures (on the jk
module or apache side.)
You state;
This problem occurs only when I try to submit a JSP/HTML form whose "action"
is in a different Web Application on the same Tomcat Server. i.e. the form is
in a web application named /vyom and the target is in a web
application /nexus2a.(both are on the same tomcat though and we specify the
absolute path in the action attribute)
which is a very good clue that something is misconfigured or misrouted by what
you believed was the correct configuration. You finally state;
with 25 concurrent users. Out of these 25 users, around 10 of them get a
proper response but remaining got "Internal Server Error".
which implies you didn't create sufficient worker pools in your configuration.
Please take this out of bugzilla. This is NOT a user support forum. Ask your
questions on an appropriate user support list. Not here.

I installed Apache 2.0.55 and mod_jk-apache-2.0.55.so.
The problem still persists.
If this problem does not relate to Apache, can someone tell where to report
this?

Some remarks:
You use a very old version of httpd. It is advisable to upgrade. As 2.0.56 might
get out of the door in the next 14 days you may want to wait until then.
What version of mod_jk are you using? Maybe it is also very old. If yes, please
try to upgrade and have a look if the problem still persists.
If the problem is still there we need some more info (log files: error log from
httpd, mod_jk log, eventually Tomcat logs (what version of Tomcat are you
using?)). After that we can hopefully see if this is really a httpd problem, a
mod_jk problem or a Tomcat problem.

One more observation.
Also, this problem occurs only when I am doing the load testing of my
application (using Mercury Load Runner) with 25 concurrent users.Out of these
25 users, around 10 of them get a proper response but remaining got "Internal
Server Error".
For normal access i.e. individual users accessing the system,it works fine
without any error.

So its a mod_jk issue instead of an Apache issue. Apache won't
return 500 without telling why.
If somebody knows how to move this PR to a mod_jk category, please do.

I'm sorry; this version is *so* stale, includes so many non-ASF elements in
your brew, and includes too little diagnostic information to actually identify
a specific bug anywhere in particular. You are essentially asking us to help
you troubleshoot code cira 2001, and it's 2006 already.
Bugzilla is not a user support forum, you might wish to ask appropriate user
support lists for additional assistance.
