Best Hadoop version for Pig 0.12.1

I'm running into some real problems with deploying Hadoop 2.4 with yarn for
pig 0.12.1…

Just poor / confusing documentation for Hadoop, pig requires a recompile,
etc.

I don't have insane requirements other than reading data from cassandra and
writing the data back into Cassandra afterwards.

However, it seems I could spend another week configuring YARN here…
