Informational: database lockups on RedHat Enterprise Server (WS/ES/AS)

For those who are experiencing problems relating to the
long-running-process bugs in BDB 4.1.25 on RedHat's Workstation Server,
Enterprise Server, or Advanced Server operating systems:

I finally got RedHat to acknowledge that there are problems with
4.1.25, which they currently ship on all versions of their commercial
OS. Unfortunately, since they just released Update 3, they say it will
be some time before they're able/willing to replace the Berkeley DB
RPM. The current estimate I have from them is three to four months.
How they justify almost 18 months between updates of a core library
which has documented bugs, and is missing several important new
features I have no idea... but that's beside the point now.

How you choose to deal with this is up to you, obviously. We'll be
rolling out our subversion server on a different OS (Fedora Core 2)
until such time as RedHat feels they're ready to updated Berkeley DB.

After fighting with the RHEL3 mess, i was able to sell moving to
FreeBSD. Our Subversion servers haven't so much as hiccoughed
since.
