[jira] Commented: (TS-564) proxy.config.cache.vary_on_user_agent is not working

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TS-564?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12965557#action_12965557 ]

Leif Hedstrom commented on TS-564:
----------------------------------

This is my bad, this setting doesn't do what I had imagined it will do (in fact, right now it doesn't do anything, but that's a different issue). I'm gonna close this, there's no way to configure what headers TS will "accept" an origin to Vary on, it'll blindly trust all origins. The best bet is to use a "header filter" type plugin, that removes unwanted Vary headers.

> when setting proxy.config.cache.vary_on_user_agent to 0 or having it not set (0 is default), and having the origin server set the Vary: User-Agent header Traffic Server still honors the header and will cache a different file for each User-Agent.
> We noticed this from a client that has approx 2k hits an hour on a file that has this header.
> This was verified with zwoop in #traffic-server
