mod_jk on apache with other virtual hosts
Hello Everyone
I am running Solaris 2.9
apache 2.0.43
Tomcat 4.1.18
I installed mod_jk and I am having some issues with it.
I the tomcat instance is creating the mod_jk.conf as expected and I have
included the file in my httpd.conf file. Problem is I already have virtual
hosts defined and I seem to be unable to figure out the correct
configuration to make this work. I have included some excerpts form my
system below.
The problem is I can't seem to get /cih to work on domain1.com

One way to get around the virtual host problem is to remove your <Listener>
tags from immediately under the <Host> tags in server.xml, and instead place
the exact same <Listener> tags under each individual <Context> - this will
add a JkMount(s) to your mod_jk.conf without the enclosing virtual hosts,
which appear to be stepping on your apache virtual hosts.

I have removed all the virtual host defs from httpd.conf
I have NameServer 10.0.0.1
In the tomcat autoconf file it declares www.domain.com with an alias for
*.domain.com
I can see my tomcat files with www.domain.com/cih/<file_name>
But I can't see my /export/web/ files, which makes sense because they are
not declared. How do I get tomcat to add this alias for / ?

You lost me. Are you saying that you are declaring the Virtual Host twice
for each domain? That won't work.
If I have a host and that host will be sending content to Tomcat, I don't
hard-code the definition in httpd.conf at all.
I let Apache pick it up from the ApacheConfig classes, which generate
mod_jk.conf.
There's no requirement to use ApacheConfig and mod_jk.conf. You can easily
add the required Tomcat-specific and JK-specific directives to your
existing virtual host declarations in Apache's httpd.conf.
Yes, it is most definitely possible to have a number of virtual hosts that
have a static directory and a "Tomcat" directory.

Re: mod_jk on apache with other virtual hosts

According to the mod_jk.conf file, there is no such host as "domain1.com",
just a host named 10.0.0.1. That is, Tomcat doesn't know about
domain1.com.
The full config option is to replace "10.0.0.1" in Tomcat's server.xml in
the Host element with "domain1.com".
Instead of:
<Host name="10.0.0.1" ... >
you want:
<Host name="domain1.com" ... >
The quick solution is to add:
<Alias>domain1.com</Alias>
in your server.xml Host block. Then restart Tomcat to regenerate
mod_jk.conf.
