4.16 SDK release
Hi,
I’ve checked out everything that needs to be done at my end and we’re all good to go re last call/make a RC.
We need to:
- Update our CI to run the tests on the SDK 4.16 develop branch so we know what tests if any are failing. [1] Can someone please take this task on.
- Need to decide what issues in [2] we want to fix in this release. The IMO two blockers re license and security issue have been fixed. Are there any volunteers for the other issues listed in that JIRA [2]?
- Are there any other issues people think are blockers / nice to have in this release or any outstanding licensing issues that need to be dealt with?
Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
Well if the straggler can invoke command-line stuff, I would suggest to go down that path.

Hi Chis,’
Much appreciated. See you’ve already trodden this path and way ahead of us. Any suggestions on how to solve this with a minimal amount of work in the next few weeks?
Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
I also had a look at 7zip ... this supports unpacking of dmgs, but in order to do so inside java, there was one 7zip wrapper library, that included the 7zip binaries. Unfortunately the wrapper didn’t support the dmg file type.
I opened an issue there, but that’s not resolved yet [1]. Unfortunately I both ran out of time and I didn’t know how to provide the files he was asking for.
Also I had a discussion with apache commons about generalizing my DMG extractor and adding that to apache commons compress. They were quite interested in that, but I haven’t found the time to finish my code. Eventually it would be a good idea to finish it after ApacheCon. Would be cool to have the fist Apache licensed DMG extractor code out there in the wild ☺

Hi,
This [1] may support it I guess and it supports LZMA/has limited support for 7Zip [2]. Is anyone will to volunteer to take this issue / work on?

It's only difficult I'd you want to implement it platform independent. If you only need to unpack dmgs on Macs, you should be fine to use the os features on the command-line.
Unfortunately the mavenizer allows producing Mac packages on Windows fire example, that was the problem.

Hi,

From what I understand we would need to add support to unpack DMG files to the installer. Chris said he looked into this and it was difficult.
I guess we could use an Apache licensed compatible ant plugin to do that via the installed? But how would this get installed? And does anyone know if such a thing exists?
I took a quick look and it looked like most of the options were GPL licensed. e.g. [1] which may work as it seems 7 zip can understand dmg format.
Thanks,
Justin

The AIR SDK is handled in installer.xml. The Installer is just an Ant
engine with a GUI.

I can't quote dates, but I think it is safe to assume that at least some
folks will want to try 4.16 with the beta or the release of AIR 24 or
later, no matter how soon we release another Flex SDK after 4.16.

Why so? The installer code isn’t in the Flex SDK, so I assume we’ll need to make a release of the installer to fix that.
Do you know the date that AIR 24 is kelly to be released? AFAIK it still in beta on labs.
Thanks,
Justin

Do we want the Installer to handle AIR 24 SDK DMG files on Mac? If so,
that will need to be dealt with before we finalize the release package.

I've just committed the FontAwesome 4.7 update, hope I've done it all right.
