I don't suppose grepping $srcdir/apr/configure.in would be acceptable

Nope. It isn't going to change all that much, so this isn't something for us
to worry about. I'd be surprised if it changed again in the next two years.

APR, APRUTIL, and Apache are simply going through a revamp of the build
process. Mostly Apache, but there is a bit of support/ripple that is
occurring within APR(UTIL).
