cactus sample - 401 on ServletRedirector

hi, trying to get the cactus 23-1.2 sample to work using jdl1.3.1_02, 
tomcat 4.0.1, and servlet 2.3 on linux (slakware 8.0). the sample runs the 
first 40 tests fine, then thows (see below). i seem to be doing what 
how-to's say.

anybody got a clue?
