[tiles2] tiles-documentation/showcase app

What is our goal with the tiles2 documentation webapp? I began moving
it to Maven2 but quickly realized that it actually has several struts1
dependencies and is fairly closely tied to it. What's interesting is
that several of the jsps me

Does everyone agree we should migrate it over to tiles2 and remove all
dependencies on struts?

That was my fault, I replaced all the references from DTD 1.1 to DTD 2.0.

Well what I have done is not exactly a forward to Tiles 2.0, all the
code of tiles-documentation needs to be translated to work. Now it is
only "correct" in a legal sense, i.e. licenses are put in the correct place.
The problem is that tiles-documentation is made of a tutorial plus live
examples, maybe we should move the static part to xdocs and the dynamic
part to the tiles-test (or showcase).

Yikes, what happened there. . nothing like sentence fragment that makes
not sense. What I meant to say was . . .

What's interesting is that several of the defs actually refer to the 2.0
dtd even though it's using tiles/struts 1.

Okie. I think Antonio put has been doing some things with it recently.
. .so I'll wait for his response and then move forward.

I don't think anyone is particularly attached to it. It could turn
into tiles-showcase or something else entirely. The documentation is
now on the website (and can be included in the eventual release
distribution) so there's no need to have a webapp called
documentation.

If you have the time and energy to work on it, go right ahead!

Ok, I'm cool with that.

Tiles isn't that big, one example app (not documentation) should be
plenty. There's no reason to keep the tests separate-- in fact the
showcase app itself will need tests.

But the documentation app is, in fact, a showcase, except of some static
docs (that can be moved to xdocs), so from my POV it is easier to adapt
it to be showcase than to create a new showcase app from scratch.

That's a good point. If we want to go that route then I'd propose
that we build a separate showcase app instead of trying to make the
documentation app fit it.

I see, so maybe the "tiles-test" webapp could be a subsection of
tiles-showcase (that probably will be the new name of tiles-documentation).

Thank you

Showcase is a flexible format. A good approach would be to have a full
set of Selenium tests for a tiles showcase. One of the showcase
packages could also be a test suite, so we could have both in the same
application. In Struts 1, the "taglib exercises" application is a test
suite, it is also a good way to learn how the tag works, and we made
it a module with other example applications. All test cases are
examples and learning tools.

I don't know, my POV is that tiles-test could be used for all tests,
even the simplest ones. For example, one day a user notices a strange
effect on a tag and opens a JIRA issue, so we resolve it and put a
Selenium test case. Adding this test case to the showcase would be
unuseful for the user.
I think that tiles-documentation (or tiles-showcase) will be a nice way
to learn Tiles by examples, and it should not be tainted with test cases.

Fine with me, but let's rename it from tiles-test... maybe
tiles-showcase or tiles-examples?

I actually agree, though there was discussion about making it a
"showcase". My preference would be to let the selenium test webapp be
our showcase. No reason to have 2 instances.

To remove it :-)

I began the process of extracting the main points from the doc and
moved them into the Tiles 1.x doc that is currently published. I
never was convinced that I combed it for all the info needed, but
eventually I hope the Tiles doc will be complete and we can get rid
of this app.
