Ant colony optimisation for SPARQL queries?
Hey folks
Anyone seen this paper?
An ant colony optimisation approach for optimising SPARQL queries by
reordering triple patterns http://t.co/BIM1qbfTfh
Original Tweet: https://twitter.com/taylor_dube/status/584501105121296384
If anyone has access to the full text of the paper via their institution I'd
be interested to read it and don't really feel inclined to pay $39.95 for
the privilege. Particularly since it mentions the following in the
abstract:
"and the second contribution is the concrete implementation for the ARQ
query engine"
I would like to hope that we might get said contribution submitted to us but
given the number of other papers that use ARQ to implement some custom
optimisation that never materialise into code we can use I won't hold out
too much hope

Not really. This is a much shorter version (6 pages) than the journal
article that Rob mentions (18 pages with tighter layout, many figures etc).

Thanks to the several people who forwarded me this paper
It makes for an interesting read and the source code can be viewed on GitHub
at https://github.com/tekrei/ARQ-ACO
I will reach out to the authors and see if we can persuade them to help
integrate this into ARQ proper. The work focuses on using the in-memory ARQ
implementation so doesn't consider TDB at all which we know to be much
faster than the in-memory implementation so not sure how much benefit it
would yield us in real world deployments but certainly something worth
exploring.
