J2: Proxy settings Jetspeed and Tomcat

Does somebody know how to configure Tomcat5.0.30/Jetspeed2_M3 behind a 
firewall??
I tried to set the TOMCAT_OPTS environment, but nothing happend. The 
portlets which get data from the internet still doen't work.

I have to put the settings for the proxy name, port, uername/password and 
domain somewhere, but I don't know where and how.

Does someone know the answer?
