Summary: re-initialization error with virtual HTTPS servers
Product: Apache httpd-1.3
Version: HEAD
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: core
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: hadmut@danisch.de
Hi,
I am aware of the RFCs 2817 and 2818, which describe the upgrade from HTTP to
TLS, which would support virtual HTTPS Servers. This is _not_ what this Bug is
about.
I tried to do this:
I generated a certificate with three alternative DNS names (like aaa.domain.de,
bbb.domain.de, ccc.domain.de) and tried to configure three virtual web servers
on the same HTTPS port, just as I would configure them on HTTP. Since they are
intended to share the same certificate, the certificate selection problem should
not exist. However, Apache does not even start, it reports that SSL was already
initialized. Obviously, every instance tries to freshly initialize SSL, even if
it has already been initalized. That's the bug.
To demonstrate the bug you don't need such a special certificate, just try to
put more than one virtual webserver on the same 443 HTTPS port.
(Using the debian apache-ssl package)
regards
Hadmut
