A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Hello, every one:

In name of CE.Dongli (China,Beijing). We registersd tow namespaces as:

www.ce-tuscany.cn
www.tuscany.org.cn

Out intention is to promote Tuscany in China. Pages in the site were translated from Tuscany's page and English doc, and there is also BBS and wiki to raise interests from local developers.

Now the site is ready for review from all of you, and we expect suggestions from you.

Logo and page style are all possibly confilcting with Tuscany or ASF's intellect property.

But please belive that all those are going to be improved!

Best regard, Geng.

Thanks Luciano for following through on this.

+1 to all your suggestions for how to proceed.

We have fixed the technical issues that were preventing us to continue
with this effort, so I guess we are ready to accept the Chinese
translation of the Tuscany website.

I think the following are the next steps we should take :

- Remove the old corrupted contents from our wiki ( I can do this
later today if people are ok)
- Chinese community to post a fresh version of the Chinese translation
of Tuscany website
- Raymond (our Chinese guru) would help us review the contents
- Make sure the contributors ha CLAs on file with Apache (they don't
have it as of today), see [1]
- Once contents are reviewed and CLAs in place, migrate the contents
to our website wiki.

Thoughts ?

Luciano,

Just to let you know that in principle Confluence Wiki software can deal
with pages in Chinese and other languages using non-Western scripts.

The OSOA Wiki has some Chinese and Japanese pages, here is an example:

http://www.osoa.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=416

The OSOA installation uses the Postgre database. Which one is being
used by the Apache Wiki?

Yours, Mike.

yet in this morning.

I don't know what happened in the evening. For example, audited by others and
autoexec tasks by wiki software, ect. I'm guessing that the question is in
here possibly.

I am seeing all these strings as ????. I'm guessing that there was
some difference between them when Raymond entered them in his post.

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Posted by Raymond Feng <en...@gmail.com>.
Hi,

I did a test following the instructions from confluence and it turned out
that the Database cannot handle the roundtrip correctly.

http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/admin/encodingtestrun.action

Test 2: Form submission
This is the test string pasted by you into the web form and submitted back
to Confluence

????

Test 3: Database round-trip (select as lower-case)
This is the string from Test 2 after being stored in the database and then
retrieved as lower-case

????

Test 4: Database round-trip (select as upper-case)

This is the string from Test 2 after being stored in the database and then
retrieved as upper-case

????

Expected result (converting Java string to uppercase)

Thanks,

Raymond

Yes, it looks like there is some kind of post-process on these pages
that are transforming all the unicode/internation characters in ???.

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Posted by Raymond Feng <en...@gmail.com>.
Hi,

It is strange. When I initially typed in the Chinese characters on the wiki
page, I could see them correctly displayed. But now they became ?? again. We
need to figure out what happened.

Thanks,
Raymond

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Posted by Simon Nash <na...@hursley.ibm.com>.
I see some characters "??" on [1], and I also see many ? characters on
the Wiki pages that Junjie put up.

Do other people see these "?" characters as well? I think this is
the problem that Junjie is describing.

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Hi Junjie,

I can help to move the page to the website. Let me know when you are done
with your update. How are you planning to keep the pages in sync with the
English version moving forward?

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Posted by Simon Nash <na...@hursley.ibm.com>.
Junjie,
That's great news. The easiest way to do this would be for you
to put these pages on the Tuscany Wiki. It's at
  http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TUSCANYWIKI/Home

You can create a new child page under the top level home page
and put the Chinese pages there. When the pages are there,
the Tuscany community can take a look at them and someone who
has read-write access to the Tuscany Web site can move them over
to the Web site. We can handle later updates to these pages in
the same way.

Do you have a Contributor License Agreement on file with Apache?
This is needed for licensing reasons before we can put the pages
on the Tuscany Web site. The page
  http://www.apache.org/licenses/
explains what is needed. See the descriptions of the Individual
Contributor License Agreement and the Corporate CLA in the section
entitled Contributor License Agreements.

Simon,
I'm in Shangguang Geng's team, we would like to put the Chinese
content to the Tuscany Web site.

Which format or way we use send it to you? We want the better way is
that we have a account for Tuscany Web site and can edit it in the
site.

Re: A Chinese version of Tuscany's technical page

Geng,
These Chinese pages look like a great way to increase Tuscany interest
and accessibility for the Chinese developer community.

Can they be hosted on the Tuscany Web site instead of on a separate
site? I am thinking of a toggle on the Tuscany site that allows the
viewer to select either an English or Chinese version of the pages.

This would prevent any problems with Tuscany or ASF intellectual
property, because these pages would be part of the Tuscany and ASF
Web site.
