GROOVY-6146 raises this concern as well.  Is there any sense of how common this might be?  And is @CompileStatic an acceptable enough workaround.  There are a number of legacy choices that are hard to get away from and static compilation offers an opportunity to make more compile-time decisions.  GROOVY-2433/GROOVY-5438 comes to mind.
