Check out the new "SO_TARGET_VERSION" pre-processor symbol in
$XERCESCROOT/version.incl (as of rev 1.9) - wouldn't that be enough? To check
for a specific Xerces-C++ version you could also use the old "VER" symbol in
the same file, although not with numerical operators.
