[jira] [Created] (KAFKA-21165) Support a different compression type for log compaction

Chia-Ping Tsai created KAFKA-21165:
--------------------------------------

Summary: Support a different compression type for log compaction
                 Key: KAFKA-21165
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KAFKA-21165
             Project: Kafka
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Chia-Ping Tsai
            Assignee: Chia-Ping Tsai

from [https://github.com/apache/kafka/pull/15516#discussion_r2314325244]

This is similar to the per-level compression in LSM trees like RocksDB. The cold data uses the slow but good ratio compression type, and the hot data uses a fast one.
