[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-12632) Completely remove Trie fields

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-12632?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17479974#comment-17479974 ]

Jan Høydahl commented on SOLR-12632:
------------------------------------

Trie fields are still with us. Would be nice to get rid of them for 9.0. Some people claim that Point + DocValues are not as performant as Trie for some use cases. It that still valid and thus an argument to keep the code for yet another year? I wont' have time to dive into this since Trie classes and logic is "everywhere", so the PR will be quite big.

> Trie fields were deprecated in Solr 7.0. We should remove them completely before we release Solr 8.0.
