The OOM problem exists even with a large (6 gigabyte) heap size.

Unfortunately, due to outside influences I was forced to destroy and recreate the production DB.  This has caused the problem to disappear.  I cannot currently reproduce.  There was an upgrade from 0.7.0 to 0.8.* involved, which makes me suspect it may be related to a known issue.

Apologies I could not provide further information.  At this point, I cannot reproduce the issue myself, so feel free to close.
