IMO, not particularly ;)   to my mind, they're both open source
licenses.

ASL has a little more emphasis on traceability of contributions and
more definitive assertions that they really were contributed by
the original author, similar to how the linux kernel is now doing
it with the GPL.  This helps avoid SCO-style craziness down the line.

Freshmeat doesn't actually host anything, as far as I know -- they
just provide a kind of links page to point at the "real" download
locations.
