git at apache

I've never used git myself, but just in case anyone does want to try:
http://wiki.apache.org/general/GitAtApache

It could possibly be a better way to collaborate on large patches
rather than the sometimes painful patch approach.

It absolutely is a better way to collaborate on development, especially in
conjunction with github:
http://github.com/apache/solr
HOWEVER, the merge of Lucene & Solr has totally disrupted the git mirrors. 
Who can fix this?
