Uggh, this looks like a bug in the Solaris compiler/runtime library.  On every 
other platform I get the following:

bash-2.03$ Xalan test1.xml test1.xsl
XSLT error: The stylesheet element did not specify a version attribute. 
(test1.xsl, line 2, column 66)
