DialyRollingFileAppender not appending footer

I am maintaining an XML log file that gets rolled over each week.  Log4J creates the header for the log file just fine.  However, when the file is rolled over, the footer is never written.  To do this I made a sub-class on PatternLayout where I defined the header and footer.

Anyone else seeing this problem or found a work-around?
