Enlist error when using JDBCDescriptor store for Sybase

hi remy,
    I am sybase database with the JDBCDescriptorStore class and i am getting
an enlist error when the slide web application
    starts loading the base data in the Domain.xml file.
    The stores in the Domain.xml file looks this.

          <contentstore name="content"
              classname="slidestore.reference.JDBCContentStore">
                 <parameter
name="driver">com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver</parameter>
                 <parameter
name="url">sybase:Tds:Rajkumar:2048/repository</parameter>
	         <parameter name="user">sa</parameter>
	         <parameter name="password">liferaj</parameter>
                 <parameter name="jdbcversion">1</parameter>
           </contentstore>

           <nodestore name="data"
classname="slidestore.reference.JDBCDescriptorsStore">
               <parameter
name="driver">com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver</parameter>
               <parameter
name="url">sybase:Tds:Rajkumar:2048/repository</parameter>
	       <parameter name="user">sa</parameter>
	       <parameter name="password">liferaj</parameter>
               <parameter name="jdbcversion">1</parameter>
           </nodestore>

           <revisiondescriptorsstore>
               <reference store="nodestore" />
	   </revisiondescriptorsstore>

           <lockstore>
               <reference store="nodestore" />
	   </lockstore>

	   <revisiondescriptorstore>
                <reference store="nodestore" />
	   </revisiondescriptorstore>

	   <securitystore>
               <reference store="nodestore" />
	   </securitystore>

The error i get is as follows.

Yes. I was starting to get frustrated by the lack of that possibility. The
problem is: what exception should we allow to throw (ServiceAccessException
? a runtime exception ?). As you mention, a status code could be enough too.
I didn't want to add a new checked exception (there are already enough).

I think there's something missing in the PROPPATCH implementation, since I
don't think it currently prevents modifying the protected properties (bad).

I'm only using with the INFO logging level (not the DEBUG level).
Basically, it's just Catalina trying to load a web application off the
namespace. So it's not a bug, it's a feature :)

Why is the server looking for all these uri's (for example /files/WEB-INF).
I do not have any such uri's in my domain.xml file. I am using a
MemoryDescriptorStore.
    thanks,

To run the server, use the catalina.sh (bat) script with the 'run'
parameter. That will run Catalina in the same window, so you'll get to see
what's wrong.

Under windows, go in the server directory, and type 'bin\catalina run'.

hi,
   I have downloaded the slide binary distribution and i am running the
startup.bat file from the bin directory.
   The new window running catalina closes automatically because of some
exception. The problem is that i am not able to see the stack trace of the
exception neither is there any information available from the log files. The
only line printed out in the log files is
        2001-09-10 14:34:33 null Opening server socket on all host IP
addresses.

   Can somebody help me with this problem.
           thanks,
           rajkumar

The standalone Slide server (the 'server' directory in the binary
distribution) uses that kind of setup.

I would say you should map it to the context, since it's associated with a
namespace (but it can also be mapped to any container).

Use of SlideRealm class to authenticate slide users

Posted by Raj Kumar <ko...@intalio.com>.
hi,
  I want to use SlideRealm to authenticate users rather than have catalina
do authentication.
  Where exactly in the server.xml file do i need to put the following line
      <Realm className="wrappers.catalina.SlideRealm" /> .
  Right now there is no context defined for the slide web application in the
server.xml file. Do i need to create
  a context element under localhost for the slide webapplication and use the
SlideRealm for that context.
     thanks,
     rajkumar

Good.

Am I right to assume that some DBs would start in auto-commit true ?
Maybe we can isolate the call to setAutoCommit(false) in a separate
try/catch, and ignore an exception being thrown there ?

hi remy,
  I have tested the JDBCDescriptorStore for oracle database with the
setAutoCommit(false)
  commented out and it works fine. The base data is loaded successfully.
       thanks,

I'm sure that sentence would make Assaf have a good laugh :)

Maybe you should go ask him about what we should expect databases to do with
the auto-commit mode by default ...

hi remy,
  It does look like some DB's would start in auto-commit true .
  I heard from somebody that even oracle does not allow setAutoCommit(false)
when dealing with a global trabsaction though i have not tested it yet.I
will do some testing with oracle database and let you know the result.
  I think setAutoCommit(false) can be in seperate try catch block and any
expection ignored if there is no possibility
  of SQLException being raised because of other problem or may be the
setAutoCommit(false) can be removed all together if the behavior is the same
for  all the databases.

RE: Enlist error when using JDBCDescriptor store for Sybase

hi dirk,
  I did some debugging on this problem.I found the exception occurs at
  public void start(Xid xid, int flags) method when the
connection.setAutoCommit(false) is called in the JDBCDescriptorStore class .
An SQLException is raised with the error message set Update command is not
allowed
  in a multi-statement transaction .It looks like the setAutoCommit(false)
should not be called
  explicitly by the programmer when dealing with a global transaction
managed by an external
  transcation manager as it is implicitly set to false by the DataSource
before returning the connection object.
  I commented out the setAutoCommit(false) part in the start method of the
JDBCDescriptorStore and the base data was loaded successfully.
        thanks,
        rajkumar

The meaning of those error codes:
XAER_RMERR
public final static int XAER_RMERR = -3
A resource manager error occurred in the transaction branch

 TMRESUME
public final static int TMRESUME = 0x08000000 =134217728
Caller is resuming association with with suspended transaction branch.

TMJOIN
public final static int TMJOIN = 0x00200000 = 2097152
Caller is joining existing transaction branch.

Something goes wrong here ;-)
Can you add "e.printStackTrace()" after line 466 in SlideTransaction.java
I have already commited this line and hopefully it is in tonigths build.

Another thing you can try is to use the jdbc version 1 of the sybase
drivers.
I think this will be the solution until a new JDBC store is created with
full
jdbc XA support.

The meaning of those error codes:
XAER_RMERR
public final static int XAER_RMERR = -3
A resource manager error occurred in the transaction branch

 TMRESUME
public final static int TMRESUME = 0x08000000 =134217728
Caller is resuming association with with suspended transaction branch.

TMJOIN
public final static int TMJOIN = 0x00200000 = 2097152
Caller is joining existing transaction branch.

Something goes wrong here ;-)
Can you add "e.printStackTrace()" after line 466 in SlideTransaction.java
I have already commited this line and hopefully it is in tonigths build.

Another thing you can try is to use the jdbc version 1 of the sybase drivers.
I think this will be the solution until a new JDBC store is created with full
jdbc XA support.
