Authentication for REST-RPC Webservices

Hi,
  
  Has anybody successfully called a REST-RPC Webservice for basic authentication. 
I would like to which is better one REST-RPC or REST with SOAP/WSDL and why?

 To add to my earlier query which would be better 
a) using REST-RPC or 
b) using RESTFul Webservices using JAX-WS  ?
