Problems with *.gz source archive

The sizes of the files as reported for the src directory appear to indicate
that the .zip archives are the only reliable thing in the repository.
This is especially true for the jakarta-tomcat and jakarta-watchdog files.
I have pointed this size discrepancy on a number of occasions.
I believe there is something wrong with the script the does the automated
build.
