Are such files still on the computer?  Use the system file search to find a file whose name you know, then start OpenOffice from the Start button, and using /File /Open, navigate to the location where the file lives and open it.  

If that works, you may just need to remake File Associations (Google for how) to tell computer to use OpenOffice to open such files.  They may not appear on the OO /File /Recent Documents list until you open each one, as explained above.

If the files are not on your computer,  then I fear they may have been overwritten.
