last encoding issue

Hi guys

Having found out out to obtain the encoding from xerces and thus able to specify it in the output
method of the xsl file, I want to know why Xalan does not pass on the encoding to the output file.
having the declaration
in the src file as:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="US-ASCII"?>

Why does the output file come only as <?xml version="1.0"?> ? According to the XSLT spec it should
carry it through to the output file.

Thanks
Jose Correia
