Jar files in lib directory not picked up

I have placed a jar file under the lib directory but am not able to
access classes in it through the servlet. What am I missing?

You'll need to make sure that you've included the jar file in tomcat's
classpath.
For me that means modifying tomcat/bin/tomcat.bat, but you might use a
different method to set your classpath.
