Charles,
What is purpose of the gwt-user bundle? It contains only definitions of widgets and it's code - both binary and resources are not used by GWT in runtime at all. Everything is built during the compile time.
Best regards,
Lukasz

Charles,
These classes are required only during compile time. GWT compiler generates tons of java script code from their sources. You can easily remove compiled classes and you EntryPoint will still work. I've run gwt client applications multiple times only on Ngnix or Apache Httpd without any JAR. You also can create an WAR archive with generated resources and it still will work.
I agree with you, that gwt-servlet is neccessary, but GWT user application is only a html and js. That's why google splitted them in two separate bundles.
Best regards,
Lukasz

Hi Lukasz,
If you deploy a wab or a war with an empty /WEB-INF/lib directory, then you must at least provide some of the packages included into the gwt-user or gwt-servlet jar file. For a simple Hello project, the following classes are required. Without such a jar, how can you find them ?
import com.google.gwt.core.client.EntryPoint;
import com.google.gwt.event.dom.client.ClickEvent;
import com.google.gwt.event.dom.client.ClickHandler;
import com.google.gwt.user.client.Window;
import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.Button;
import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.Label;
import com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.RootPanel;
Regards,
Charles
