Thanks, updated and linked to Tag Syntax page [1], but I think it
should be removed at some point - the docs and the option - user
shouldn't be allowed to change the behaviour of when value is treated
as an expression.

No idea, probably not

Yes, I discovered that when I was working on [1]. It must be updated
to much current version of Struts 2 but the explanation why to use %
is still relevant.

Or maybe just remove the altSyntax as an option that can be disabled ?
