Tika 3.x(?)

All,
  I'm starting to open tickets for work that I'd like to do before we
release 3.x.  I have no idea when we should target a 3.x.  I don't
foresee nearly the number of user-facing changes (e.g. metadata and
modularization) that we had with 2.x.
  What do you all want to see in 3.x?  When do we fork main and when
do we aim for an 3.0.0-ALPHA (waves hands in open-source time)?
