svn: REPORT of '/svn/project/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read response body: Connection reset by peer

Happy New Year to you all :)

I was wondering if anyone's ever figured out a workaround or solution to
the following error we're frequently encountering:

svn: REPORT request failed on '/svn/project/!svn/vcc/default'
svn: REPORT of '/svn/project/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read response
body:
Connection reset by peer (https://svn.project.com)

This usually occurs when performing an svn import, add or commit from a
local working copy to a remote repository via https.

Remote repo is running latest Apache 2, APR and SVN from FreeBSD ports.
SVN is set up using FileFS and is not under NFS. We've also
preconfigured Apache on the repo server with the env variable
"ac_cv_func_poll=no; export ac_cv_func_poll" as per the Subversion FAQs
(even though the FAQ is aimed at OS X Tiger).

Any other ideas on how we might resolve this?

Many thanks,
brian
