smoketester fail

I'm not sure what I may be doing wrong, but I'm unable to get smoketester to run; I get this error:

command "export JAVA_HOME="/home/sokolovm/sokolovm/workspace/lucene/jdk-21.0.2/" PATH="/home/sokolovm/sokolovm/workspace/lucene/jdk-21.0.2//bin:$PATH" JAVACMD="/home/sokolovm/sokolovm/workspace/lucene/jdk-21.0.2//bin/java"; java -Dsmoketester=true --module-path modules:modules-thirdparty --module org.apache.lucene.demo/org.apache.lucene.demo.IndexFiles -index index -docs docs" failed:
Error occurred during initialization of boot layer
java.lang.module.FindException: Error reading module: modules/lucene-analysis-nori-10.5.1.jar
Caused by: java.lang.module.InvalidModuleDescriptorException: Unsupported major.minor version 65.0
65 is the jdk21 class file version, and as you can see from the command, I'm (at least trying) using jdk21 to run the command, so I'm kind of confused as to why this is not working

Seems to be something about Python mucking with PATH that I am not
able to wrap my head around

Yes, that was the trick -- I needed to pass in the PATH variable
corresponding w/JAVA_HOME

The problem has to do with my inability to understand/use Python ...
the host I'm using has python3 == 3.9, which I think isn't new enough.
At one time I had been using pyenv to get access to a newer version,
but this was somehow overriding PATH and replacing whatever java I
configure with /usr/bin/java (which is some ancient version on this
system). So I think this has nothing to do with Lucene, it's just
some horrible setup. I need to run the smoketester somewhere else or
get the system working better I guess

I've downloaded the distribution and tried it and it works for me with
jdk21... What happens if you run this -

export JAVA_HOME="/home/sokolovm/sokolovm/workspace/lucene/jdk-21.0.2"
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
java -version

Does it return Java 21?
