As I commented on [YARN-1157|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-1157?focusedCommentId=13770044&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13770044], the real underlying problem causing us handle nulls, empty strings, "N/A"s etc is that tracking URL is a string and not a URL. Too late to make incompatible changes, so we should deprecate the current stringly APIs.
